Councillor S Danvers
Originally from Leicestershire, I was raised in a 2-up, 2-down council house in a coal mining town. After obtaining my degree and PGCE in English at The University of Nottingham, I moved to the parish of Heanor and Loscoe in 2016 and absolutely fell in love with its rich history and the neighbourly residents. Since my arrival, I've become a mum to two little boys who will grow up as part of this fantastic area. I decided to stand for council to become directly involved in the wellbeing of the local community.
As a teacher, my role as Town Councillor is another fantastic opportunity for me to contribute to improving the lives of all our youngsters, helping them to recognise their own talents and turn their goals into reality. I am particularly interested in creating equal opportunities for students who come from disadvantaged backgrounds when it comes to a scarcity of educational resources (such as books and equipment) and pathways into work or further education. My aspirations as Town Councillor include contributing to the improvement of local schools, offering environmentally friendly ways to improve our ecological footprint, implementing programs which help local people access jobs and training opportunities, tackling child poverty, and preventing the burden of austerity crippling those who are already struggling. I strongly supported the preservation of the local greenbelts and will endeavour to put residents' voices at the forefront of my time in office.
