New Year Message
It certainly has been a year to forget for us as we move into Tier 4, but there is hope in the New Year with the vaccination programme. I think as we look forward to the New Year it is important to remember a few of the positives from the last year, although admittedly there are not many. Probably one of the few highlights of 2020 has been the excellent reception for the new Christmas lights, which have proved popular with everyone. This is certainly true by the number of positive comments received by the Council. There is pressure now on us to improve on what was done and expand the lights to other parts of our community. |
Another positive has been the granting of planning permission for the Community and Sports Centre at Charles Hill Playing Fields Loscoe. This would not have been possible without the significant financial contribution from the Town Council and we are keen to ensure that the project keeps to schedule.
Also, the Town Council have adopted a 45-point plan to help improve the Community and are working closely with Amber Valley Borough Council to ensure it is implemented on issues like electric charging points for cars, improving the environment, ensuring any housing built is appropriate for our community amongst other things.
Looking forward, we had the announcement on Boxing Day that the application by Amber Valley Borough Council for the Future High Street Fund has been approved.
The Town Council supported the application and will look forward to working with Amber Valley Borough Council to ensure it is implemented.
Whilst disappointed that we did not get the full amount applied for, I am sure with the £8.5 million awarded will make great progress in improving the Town Centre and resolve the longstanding issue of developing the former Grammar School site for community use and the return of the Triptych.
However, one way we all can help support our Town, despite the restrictions, is to shop local. There will be no point in regenerating the Town if we have no local shops to attract people.
On this positive note can I take the opportunity to wish you all a very happy and healthy New Year.
Cllr Paul Jones

Town Council Area Profile
The production of a profile, whist not the normal function of Town or Parish Councils, is important given the current financial climate and cut backs by Government, Derbyshire County Council, the Police and Amber Valley Borough Council. Under such circumstances it is believed it is the responsibility of those authorities closest to their communities to look at having a long-term plan to help develop and improve our community.
The report makes 45 recommendations that cover population density, housing, green belt, economic activity, High Street, youth engagement, development opportunities within the Town, engaging with the community and environment.
The details of the 71 page document can be accessed below. Or by viewing the hard copy held in Heanor Library. Copies of the profile and recommendations have been sent to the County Council, Police, Borough Council and local groups.
