On Sunday 19 April the Mayor Councillor Alan Abernethy had the pleasure of attending a community event at Marlpool United Reformed Church, hosted by Andy Quinn, grandson of Albert Hand. The afternoon celebrated Albert’s life, Heanor Records, and the Elvis Presley fan club. It was a fantastic event, filled with memorabilia, stories, and shared memories. The Mayor even had the chance to meet “Elvis” himself — brilliantly brought to life by Andy.
Thanks to support from a National Lottery Heritage Fund grant, Andy is now planning to create an oral history project to document his grandfather’s contribution to pop music in the 1950s and 60s, ensuring these stories are preserved for future generations.
