Councillor F Carmichael
Born in Glasgow, Scotland in 1955, I served a technical engineering apprenticeship at Albion Motors Ltd. before moving to Essex, England in 1980 to work for Ford Motor Company Ltd. where I was initially employed as an engine draftsperson for around 3 years before moving into component engineering working on various systems such as exhaust/catalyst , fuel and ignition. During this time, I gained an honours degree in automotive engineering and served as a MSF/Unite Union representative for several years. Luckily I was able to retire early during 2016 and, with the children having flown the nest, my wife and I decided to move closer to her family in Lancashire and, in Dec. 2016, we settled in Codnor, Derbyshire where we still live today. Soon after, I joined the Labour Party and, this year, I was elected as Labour councillor for Heanor East and am also a member of Codnor Parish Council. I have since volunteered as council representative for the Friends of Red River Local Nature Reserve in Loscoe and recently attended the official opening of the new dipping pond.
